Shipping artificial flowers overseas is a logistical nightmare if you don’t get the packaging right. Unlike real flowers, artificial flowers don’t die, but they can be crushed, bent, or stained by moisture. Here are the golden rules for packaging artificial flowers for sea or air freight.
Rule 1: The “Head-Up” Rule
Never lay artificial flowers flat if they have stiff stems. The weight of the flowers above will crush the ones below. Always pack them upright in tall cartons. If the carton is too tall for standard pallets, use dividers to create layers, but ensure the flowers are not bearing weight.
Rule 2: Moisture Control is Critical
Sea freight containers are humid. Artificial flowers made of silk or paper can develop mold. Always include silica gel desiccant packets in every carton. For high-value orders, consider vacuum-sealing the flowers before boxing.
Rule 3: Protect the Petals
For delicate flowers like roses or peonies, use soft tissue paper or foam netting around the bloom. Do not use newspaper, as the ink can transfer to the fabric.

Rule 4: Labeling
Clearly label each carton with the SKU, quantity, and a “Fragile” sticker. If you are shipping mixed cartons, create a packing list and attach it to the outside of the carton in a waterproof pouch.
